Mangoes

This mango variety likely originated along the Kenyan coast, possibly near Malindi. It emerged as a chance seedling, and its exact lineage is unknown. The fruit is medium to large, almost spherical, and displays a vibrant yellow/orange to red hue when mature. On average, the fruit measures 9.7 cm in length and 11 cm in width, weighing between 280-580 grams (average: 397 grams). Typically, the skin is smooth and thin if the fruit is healthy, and the succulent yellow flesh inside is flavorful, with a melting texture and minimal fibrous content. This cultivar is not polyembryonic, resulting in a wide variation in fruit shape, color, and quality when propagated from seed. The trees are robust and large, with a pear-shaped growth pattern. Harvesting times vary by location, generally spanning from September to early March, and the yields are moderate. These apple mangoes, compliant with export quality standards, are harvested from GAP-certified farms located in Makueni, Embu, Machakos, Meru and Garissa.
