A member of the platinum family of elements, rhodium is a rare and expensive metal. It is exceedingly tough and long-lasting, and it has a silvery-white colour. High-end jewellery and electronics are perfect applications for rhodium because of its high melting point and exceptional resistance to corrosion and tarnishing. The main mining locations for rhodium are South Africa, Russia, and Canada. It is often derived from nickel or copper ores. It has many uses, such as serving as a catalyst in the creation of nitric acid, as a tarnish-resistant coating for jewellery and silverware, and as a plating material for mirrors and electrical contacts.Due to its excellent resistance to corrosion and wear, rhodium is utilised as a plating material for electrical contacts, switches, and connectors. Nitric acid, which is used to generate fertilisers, explosives, and other chemicals, is produced using rhodium as a catalyst. High-temperature thermocouples and crucibles are made using rhodium for use in the glass manufacturing process. Applications for rhodium in the treatment of cancer and diagnostic imaging have showed promise.
